2 more GM recalls affect half million vehicles

DETROIT — General Motors on Friday recalled more than half a million vehicles in North America, including new Cadillac crossovers and discontinued Saab sport-utility vehicles to fix potential loose joints and worn threads blamed for three crashes and two injuries.
The two recalls collectively affect 524,384 vehicles in North America, including 379,401 units across the USA.
The largest recall is 290,107 units of the 2010-15 Cadillac SRX and 2011-12 Saab 9-4X because "improper torqueing could possibly result in a loose joint and worn threads that could cause the toe adjuster link to separate," GM officials said.
The company said it had reported the condition Sept. 17 to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
In the smaller of the latest two recalls, GM said it would fix 89,294 units in the U.S. of the 2013-15 Chevrolet Spark minicar "because corrosion can cause the secondary hood latch striker to stick in the open position."
"If the primary latch is not engaged, the hood could open unexpectedly," GM said.
About 13,000 units of the Spark, imported from Korea, will be parked at U.S. dealerships until the fixes can be made. The Spark is the second least expensive new car sold in the U.S. this year, according to a Cars.com review.
GM said it did not know about any crashes blamed on the issue.
The automaker said several weeks ago that it had largely finished its review of past defect data, which had led to a long stream of recalls this summer in wake of a deadly ignition-switch defect that spawned government investigations and lawsuits.
